BEAR # 275     BOOK: MICHAEL BOND'S BOOK OF BEARS by MICHAEL BOND     SOLD

A collection of stories by Else Holmelund Minarik, Jane Hissey, Anne Forsyth, Lesley Smith, Kate Marshall, Elizabeth Brook, Simon Bovey, Graham J. Brooks, Enid Blyton, Joan G. Robinson with illustrations by Bridget Dowty, R. Andrew, Jan Brychta, Maurice Sendak, Ray Mutimer, Rosa C. Petherick, Patrick Lowry, and Cathie Shuttleworth.  Of course, there’s a story about Paddington Bear by Michael and Karen Bond.  Mr. Bond's first story about Paddington was first published in 1958.  He not only writes about Paddington, but adds Olga Da Polga the guinea pig, a mouse named Thursday, and J. D. Polson, an armadillo with a taste for adventure.  Hardback book, 144 pages, dust cover and book in excellent condition.  Printed 1992.

Through extensive original research Mrs. Schoonmaker has traced the history of the Teddy Bear from its pre-Teddy days down to the present time. Over 800 illustrations in black and white and color are featured. Bear related items such as games, toys, music, post cards, paper dolls, books, spoons, children’s clothing and accessories are also included in this 312 page book.  Mrs. Schoonmaker an accomplished journalist, has written about dolls also, and has collected many resource articles about bears.  Hardback book, 312 pages, dust cover and book in excellent condition.  4th printing 1985. This 384-page book is an affectionate look at teddy bears, old and new.  You’ll find hundreds of full-color photographs featuring antique teddy bears, as well as bears made today by skilled individual bear makers and major toy manufacturers.  Included in the book are profiles of the bear makers and a illustrated history of teddy bears.  This special book is for anyone who loves an old teddy or new irresistible teddy.  Some of the artists included in the book are Althea Leistikow, Lynn Lumley, Carol Martin, Ted Menten, Doris & Terry Michaud, Mary Olsen, Steve Schutt, and Kathleen Wallace just to name a few.  Many more well-known artists and manufactures are included.  When this book was written, Joan Greene owned one of the oldest all-teddy-bear stores in the USA, located at Ghiradelli Square in San Francisco.  She published the first catalog for handmade teddy bears.  Ted Menten, an accomplished designer, photographer, collector, bear maker, and writer has written several other books including The Teddy Bear Lovers Catalog, The World According to HUG and others.  Hardback book, 384 pages, dust cover and book in excellent condition.  Printed 1989.
